Why did I start coming to your Pilates class?
I was having problems with my back and seeing a physio, who ran Pilates classes himself in Manchester. He recommended me to try Pilates and, as a regular user of the gym in Forest Hills, I saw there were classes available so here I am.
Have they made a difference?
Yes, I feel stronger in my core and I haven’t had any recurrence of my back pain.
What do I think of the sessions?
I enjoy them. There is plenty of joking. At the same time you take care that we don’t injure ourselves and work within our capabilities. There is such consistency in your delivery so you know what you should be trying to do at each stage of an exercise. You are reliable too. There have been classes every week, and if you were not available then you found a replacement.
What do I struggle with?
Most things but particularly balance, sitting up unaided, lying back slowly, tight hamstrings, posture. There’s a long list.
What am I better at?
Strength exercises maybe.
Is Pilates just for Tuesdays?
No. At first I’d go home and try some of the most difficult exercises. That wasn’t a good idea. I’d pull something. Now I do a little routine at the end of my three-times-a-week gym sessions, starting with something simple and build it up bit by bit as you do in class.
