Nordic WalkingWhat is Nordic Walking?
Nordic Walking is powerful outdoor walking using a special set of walking poles. Originally performed in training by cross country skiers to maintain maximum fitness levels during the summer months, the Nordic Walking technique has now developed into a popular and physical activity which appeals to all.
Benefits of Nordic Walking
Weight Loss :
Burn at least 20% more calories than regular walking. With regular practice this can increase to as much as 50% more, greatly improving stamina and aerobic fitness.
Muscle Tone :
90% of major muscles work during Nordic Walking. Tone abdominals, buttocks, thighs, arms and shoulders – all in the same workout.
Improve Posture :
Also known as “Walking Pilates”, Nordic Walking increases body awareness. Stand and walk taller and not just when working out!
Relieve Tension :
Using poles helps to take the stress off major joints and in particular the knees. However, because Nordic Walking is a weight bearing exercise, bone density is increased in this low impact workout. Also, neck, back and shoulder tension can be reduced as strength and flexibility are improved.
Save Time :
A complete upper and lower body workout in just one hour. With progress, the intensity and/or time can be adjusted to maintain maximum fitness levels.
For Everyone :
Nordic Walking is the ideal activity to get fit, stay fit and increase fitness. Individuals work at their own pace in their own time.
Anywhere :
Nordic Walking can take place anywhere outdoors, ideally somewhere scenic!
Inexpensive :
After a few lessons and you have bought your own poles, you are free to Nordic Walk whenever you choose!
