FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Alex's experience is mainly from a dance background and she is highly qualified within several disciplines of the fitness industry.  She has many years experience teaching these to classes, small groups and to individuals.

Pilates
Alex's background in Pilates instruction was initially with Modern Pilates but has extensive experience of Body Control, Stott, Pilates Institute and Pilates Foundation.  She includes reformer, gymball and foam roller in conjunction with more traditional matwork and elements of ballet and yoga.  Alex emphasises the importance of technique when teaching clients.  Correct alignment and posture being key during any of the the prescribed exercises, to promote core strength, increase flexibility and to address any injuries or muscular imbalance.

Yoga
Initially trained with the Iyengar Institute, Alex combines their precise and strong technique within the fun, fast and powerful approach of the Ashtanga style when teaching Yoga to either classes or individuals.  The emphasis here is on strength, flexibility and fluidity as one sequence flows beautifully into the next.  The benefits of a powerful yoga class, such as streamlining and stretching the muscles promoting more energy become apparent very soon with continued practice.  Definitely a dynamic class, but there is always time at the end to ease off and meditate, if only for a few minutes!

Dance Aerobics
The emphasis here is on dance as the aerobic impact intensity is dictated by the participant.  Alex uses traditional aerobic moves such as marches, grapevines and knee lifts and then layer by layer they become more complex with dance moves such as the mambo, cha cha chas and pivot turns.  A very choreographed and dancey workout where the participant decides if they want to keep it low impact or put more powerful leaps into it, either way you are working out in a fun way, but co-ordination is definitely required!

Dance Step
As above but using the same or similar moves on or around the step for increased intensity.  Even more co-ordination required!

 Body Conditioning
These classes have a little bit of choreography, just to make them more interesting.  Alex will take one, two, or even three moves and link them together to target key areas such as legs, bums and tums at the same time as toning the arms.  The emphasis here is on strength and balance as well as correct alignment so we are effecting the right muscles.  Equipment such as free weights or gymballs may be used from time to time.  Basically Pilates speeded up, but keep an eye on technique!

Tango Fusion
Tango could be described as "Pilates in motion" or even "a vertical expression of a horizontal desire!" With husband, Anthony, Alex teaches Tango workshops mainly to the corporate market www.carryondancing.co.uk. Tango Fusion combines he key fundamentals of Pilates ie. core strength, postural awareness and balance and presents them in movement and often with a partner which adds more challenge than the more traditional Pilates exercises.

Synergy
Pilates + Yoga + Energy = Synergy.  Alex has devised this workout which combines the best of both disciplines which are linked together in sequences which link beautifully together.  This is a dynamic and powerful class which aims to strengthen, streamline and stretch muscles for a complete body workout.

Adult Ballet
Traditional ballet barre and centre exercise are presented in a fun class where even the novice dancer can take part.  Be prepared to work the whole body in this class that increases strength, flexibility and improves posture.
